Coiste Gaeilge

Each morning our Coiste Gaeilge were out in force spreading a love of all things Irish and and giving stamps and stickers to those children making an extra effort to use their cúpla focail!

Back in the classroom, the title of Gaeilgeoir an Lae was awarded to those children making a big effort to speak Irish throughout the day.

Toraíocht Taisce

The children from Junior Infants to 2nd Class, helped along by the pupils in the senior classes, had great fun combining their map reading skills with their Gaeilge to complete a Tóraíocht Taisce based on the popular story ‘An Fathach Is Breátha sa Tír’.

Tráth na gCeist

Wednesday, 15 March, was a very exciting day for all the children from 3rd to 6th class as they came together in the halla for a nail-biting Tráth na gCeist! The teams were made up of a mix of children from third to sixth class and they worked together to claim the winning prize – Easter eggs!!

Ceol sa Halla!

The children in Junior Infants, 3rd Class and 4th Class were treated to some fabulous traditional Irish music by some of our parents and grandparents in the halla. Traditional Irish music could also be heard in the corridors during the week as the children learned traditional Irish dances and took part in céilí throughout the week.

Lá Glas

The whole week culminated with Lá Glas on Thursday, 16 March as a sea of green was created throughout the school with the pupils and teachers came to school dressed in our National colour and gathered in the halla for an assembly to honour St. Patrick.

Then, to add to the excitement of Lá Glas, Ms Maguire’s Junior Infant class welcomed five new chicks!!

St. Patrick’s Day Parade

The fun continued on St. Patrick’s Day as the school participated in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Greystones. It was a morning to remember as The St. Laurence’s crew raised the spirits of the crowd with their chanting and singing!

A memorable and exciting Seachtain na Gaeilge was had by all and we are already looking forward to the 2024 celebrations!!
