Physical Education

St Laurence’s strives to provide access for all pupils to a broad and balanced Physical Education programme.  As per the guidelines from the Department of Education & Skills, each child receives a minimum of 60 minutes of Physical Education  per week.  PE homework is prescribed once per week, related to the PE strand that the pupils are working on at the time.  All classes are taught at least five different PE strands: athletics, aquatics, dance, games and gymnastics every year.

A PE equipment audit takes place once a year where we dispose of old and broken equipment and purchase replacement equipment where  necessary.

The PE equipment and resources were recently organised so they are clearly labelled, well-organised and easily accessible.

This year we are particularly focussed on improving the Physical Literacy of the pupils by improving our Fundamental Movement Skills have now become a major focus of our Games lessons. Members of staff have undertaken CPD in FMS and Crossfit during the past 12 months. New knowledge, ideas and resources have been shared out amongst staff members. Each Games lesson is based on developing a specific FMS and have been specified on a monthly basis as part of the Whole School PE Plan.   Our school teaches the Land PAWS water safety programme at one or more class levels every year.
