Visual Arts in St. Laurence's
The visual arts curriculum within St. Laurence’s school encourages each child to explore their own creativity and individuality. Pupils are taught a range of skills and use a wide range of media to explore their own experiences. The Visual Arts curriculum is linked to many other curriculum subjects.
Pupils illustrate their work in a range of formats through topic work, structured play, art lessons and project work. The children’s progress is assessed in their art portfolios. These portfolios start in Junior Infants and are completed in 6th Class.
Displays within the classrooms are of huge value to pupil self-esteem. Displays are linked throughout the school to incorporate other events within the school calendar. Also a variety of artists are studied throughout the school year.
Pupils have opportunities to participate in a variety of competitions at their own age levels to enable them to use the skills they have learned, and to explore their own concepts and ideas.
